Blue Bell Wood Children’s Hospice

Resin Bound Path for Blue Bell Wood Children's Hospice

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has been serving the communities of South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire since 2008. Once a hospice was thought of as just a place for palliative care. Now, they are so much more than that.

The Bluebell Wood Hospice Gives So Much

A children’s hospice is dedicated to helping children and young people who are not expected to live until adulthood. The Bluebell Children’s Hospice provides palliative and end of life care for the whole family and siblings. Offering physiotherapy, music therapy, counselling and young adult support.

Bluebell Wood provides an invaluable service, at an incredibly challenging time supporting the children, the families and the siblings. Long experience has shown what families need, and Bluebell Wood is there for the long haul providing families with short breaks, respite care and palliative care.

No family has to suffer alone the terrible loss of a child. The Bluebell Wood team are there to help with whatever is needed. That might be as a supporting hand, space to cry or providing a place to reduce the stresses that are part of this journey. Bereavement support from Bluebell Wood continues for as long as it is needed — providing help and support that is often difficult to access and is vital for the families.

The Bluebell Wood Dragonfly Garden

One area of Bluebell Hospice is very special to the families, and that is the Dragonfly garden. This unique area is where families visit to remember their loved ones, a significant space for local families. However, the garden, laid initially by Alan Titmarsh in 2008, needed a little bit of TLC.

In 2021 a new path meanders through the garden. A resin path laid by industry experts First Impressions Yorkshire. The path had to be resilient and hard-wearing, and the design needed to increase accessibility for all, keeping in harmony with the feel and value of the garden.

The highly versatile resin-bound path is strong and flexible due to its UVR bond, with a seamless finish and an anti-slip surface. First Impressions Yorkshire used a BBA approved resin binder with a mixture of autem quarts and Spanish marble stone. It is beautiful to look at, sparkling and shining, adding a sense of wonder to those who go there searching for peace and memories. The pebbles lining the path are in memory of children lost,
